The top (1-50) universities in the world identifies STREAMS and academic excellence as key criteria for acceptance to their programs. 

However, academic performance alone is not enough to gain admission to top universities in the U.S.A. Top universities, for example, allows applicants to personalize their applications to include unique personal experiences.

For examples, MIT or Yale University has a section that allows an applicant to write about their STREMS background.
